Product Info: Basil Leaf (Ocimum Basilicum) is a very popular and well known herb. The Greek name for Basil means King and in much of South Asia religious offerings are made to the Tulsi Plant everyday. Basil is most often thought of as an Italian spice. This spice is also known as sweet basil, a member of the mint family. It comes to us from California where the world's finest basil is grown. Basil has a delicate flavor that accents nearly every food including chicken, fish, pasta, tomato dishes, stews, salads and vegetables. Heat is tough on basil, so add at the end of the cooking process to maintain its delicate flavor.

Suggested Use: Use Basil to season tomato sauces, salad dressings, cold pasta salads, it is also gives a sweetscented, minty aroma when crumbled over baked chicken, lamb, or fish. Add it to marinades, soups and stews. Basil is delicious sprinkled over garden tomatoes with fresh mozzarella or feta cheese. Basil is also a main ingredient for pesto. It blends well with garlic, thyme, and oregano. Crush dried leaves with your hand or in a mortar and pestle to release the herb's flavor. Start with 1/2 teaspoon for 4 servings; add more to taste.
